Mid Century Modern Wall Sconce

Mid Century Modern Wall Sconce

Mid Century Modern Wall Sconce.

The ultimate modernist wall sconce for your mid century modern architectural house. This mid century modern wall sconce has minimal and timeless modern appeal. A good match with mid-century modern architecture as seen in the photographs by Julius Shulman. Julius Shulman was the leading American architectural photographer best known for his photograph "Case Study House #22, Los Angeles, 1960. Pierre Koenig, Architect." The house is also known as The Stahl House. Julius Shulman's photography spread California Mid-century modern around the world. Through his many books, exhibits and personal appearances his work ushered in a new appreciation for the movement beginning in the 1990s. His vast library of images currently reside at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. His contemporaries include Ezra Stoller and Hedrich Blessing. In 1947, Julius Shulman asked architect Raphael Soriano to build a mid-century steel home and studio in the Hollywood Hills. Some of his architectural photographs, like the iconic shots of Frank Lloyd Wright's or Pierre Koenig's remarkable structures, have been published countless times. The brilliance of buildings like those by Charles Eames, as well as those of his close friend, Richard Neutra, was first brought to light by Julius Shulman's photography. The clarity of his work demanded that mid century modern architectural photography had to be considered as an independent art form. Each Shulman image unites perception and understanding for the buildings and their place in the landscape. The precise compositions reveal not just the architectural ideas behind a building's surface, but also the visions and hopes of an entire age. A sense of humanity is always present in his work, even when the human figure is absent from the actual photographs. Today, a great many of the buildings documented by Julius Shulman have disappeared or been crudely converted, but the thirst for his pioneering images is stronger than ever. Mid century modern architecture was a further development of Frank Lloyd Wright's principles of organic architecture combined with many elements reflected in the International and Bauhaus movements. Mid-century modernism, however, was much more organic in form and less formal than the International Style. Scandinavian architects were very influential at this time, with a style characterized by clean simplicity and integration with nature. Like many of Wright's designs, Mid-Century architecture was frequently employed in residential structures with the goal of bringing modernism into America's post-war suburbs. This style emphasized creating structures with ample windows and open floor-plans with the intention of opening up interior spaces and bringing the outdoors in. Many Mid-century houses utilized then-groundbreaking post and beam architectural design that eliminated bulky support walls in favor of walls seemingly made of glass. Function was as important as form in Mid-Century designs, with an emphasis placed specifically on targeting the needs of the average American family. Examples of residential Mid-Century modern architecture are frequently referred to as the California Modern style. Pioneering builder and real estate developer Joseph Eichler was instrumental in bringing Mid-Century Modern architecture ("Eichler Homes") to subdivisions in the Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay region of California and select housing developments on the east coast. Classic examples of mid century modern furniture design include Century Modern Furniture has an ever changing inventory of the best in 20th century modern design. These mid century modern wall sconces still bring you into the 21st century. Add sets of the following modern wall sconces to your decor and set a modern theme to your environment. Many include metallic frames to provide indirect illumination, by bouncing the light off the wall, while glass frames emit more of a dispersed, general lighting. Please select a mid century modern wall sconce of your choice for more information. George Fred Keck, Henry P. Glass and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe created Mid-Century Modern residences in the Chicago area. Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House is extremely difficult to heat or cool, while Keck and Glass were pioneers in the incorporation of passive solar features in their houses to compensate for their large glass windows.

German-born Ingo Maurer is one of the most prolific and respected artist/designers working today. Fascinated by what he calls the "magical and mystical" properties of light, Ingo Maurer constructs luminous atmospheres that play with traditional concepts of color, brightness, and shadow. Since 1966, Ingo Maurer has created more than 150 different lights and lighting systems and designed lighting for diverse international venues, including fashion runways, public buildings and monuments, and private commissions. Ingo Maurer uses unexpected materials and found objects to create light, and he is a pioneer in the usage of new lighting technologies. Ingo Maurer is among the most fascinating, prolific and respected designers and artists of today. With a primary focus on what he calls the magic of lighting Ingo Maurer has created over 150 different lighting systems and illuminated sculptures like the Ingo Maurer Campari Lamp, the Lucellino, the Bulb, the pop-art "Canned Light", the Ingo Maurer Floatation. We have enjoyed our relationship with him for many years and visit his showroom in Munich as often as we can, just for inspiration. Ingo Maurer often uses everyday materials and found objects for his light creations. He was among the first designers to develop a cable lighting system (YaYaHO) and from early on experimented with halogen and light-emitting diodes.
The names of the Ingo Maurer lights are almost as creative as the lights themselves: Alizz C. cooper, Willy Dilly, Licht.Einstein, Knitterling. I could go on and on.
Ingo Maurer seeks interaction from the users of his designs: there are mirrors to be directed, wires to string, love notes to attach to wires. Quirky details act as surprising elements that make you stop, look again to see if you were right, then smile. Alligators, inquisitive rats, chicken feet, scribbled love notes, wherever you look there's something new and exciting, something magical.
That's the pure reason why Ingo Maurer creates his fantastic modern lighting.

Ingo Maurer Bulb Table Lamp

One of the lasting timeless design classics in the history of modern design. Ingo Maurer's Bulb lamp is a modern design classic! The Bulb lamp is a modern table lamp which was designed by Ingo Maurer in Germany. The Bulb lamp has the features of an oversized double light bulb. The Bulb lamp is Ingo Maurer's first manufactured lamp and the one that launched his company Design M. The Bulb table lamp borrows its style from pop art. This work treats the light bulb itself as a remarkable piece of design and art. The Bulb lamp consists of an oversize blown-glass cartoon of a light bulb that holds a smaller, working bulb within it. It nicely embodies the witty, playful spirit of the Pop era.

Bulb is one of Ingo Maurer's earliest designs. It celebrates Thomas Edison and the simple incandescent bulb. The outer envelope of beautiful hand-made glass houses a crown-silvered 100W bulb. It is held by a chrome-plated base.

The WillyDilly pendant light was designed by Ingo Maurer in Germany. Ingo Maurer's desire to create a more pleasant light source within a cafe prompted him to make a hanging lamp by simply fixing a stiff card to a naked bulb with a clothes peg. The humidity in the cafe was so intense that the paper curled round in a spiral. This inspired Maurer to develop Willydilly, an adjustable suspension lamp which is put together by the owner. Ingo Maurer's WillyDilly pendant lamp is a great choice for any interior and it is a surprisingly good match in both modern and classical interiors. Kartell Ami Ami Chair

The Ami Ami chair was designed by Tokujin Yoshioka for Kartell in Italy. Inspired by the play of wrap and weft in woven fabric, Tokujin Yoshioka wanted to use this stylistic symbol typical of his culture, weaving , and thus creating it in the Ami Ami chair whose name in Japanese literally means "weave".

The simple squared off lines contrast with the rich texture of the weaving reproduced on the inner and outer surfaces through a complex industrial process recreating the motif with a single mold. Ami Ami combines the appeal of oriental culture with the use of innovative materials like polycarbonate and comes in two transparent clear and smoked versions and three matte versions of white, red and black. The Ami Ami seat matches the table with a square polycarbonate top measuring 70x70(cms) covered by the weaving motif and painted aluminum legs.
