Carl Hansen Wegner CH07 Chair in Japan Red by Hans Wegner

This Hans Wegner CH07 chair with its classic Japan red finish is our personal favorite. The Hans Wegner CH07 chair is made by Carl Hansen in Denmark. The Hans Wegner CH07 chair is a comfortable three-legged shell lounge chair which can be used in a wide variety of settings. This icon of Scandinavian modern furniture design was created by Hans Wegner in 1963. Not only is the Hans Wegner CH07 chair beautiful and unique, but it is also incredibly comfortable! The perfect fusion of form and function, the Wegner CH07 chair is a piece of modern furniture you will cherish for years to come.

The seat and back of the Wegner CH07 chair are made of form-pressed plywood shells. The 3 legs of the CH07 chair consist of a laminated construction, the 2 front legs are made of one continuous piece and the hind leg is a separate element. To enhance the comfort Hans Wegner added 2 upholstered cushions to the CH07 which are fastened to the shell with screws from the back.

Hans Wegner trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller's architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Borge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London made him an Honorary Royal Designers for Industry in 1959.
