Louis Poulsen PH50 pendant lamp.
Made by Louis Poulsen Lighting in Denmark.
Poul Henningsen designed the PH5 lamp for Louis Poulsen in 1958. PH50 is a PH5 lamp in a a new jacket. To celebrate this milestone, Louis Poulsen has introduced a special anniversary edition, the PH50 lamp. The PH50 lamp is identical in size to the PH5 lamp but comes in five attractive colors which were inspired by the 1950's. While the classic PH5 was designed with a matte finish, the PH50 is wet-painted in a high-gloss finish which reflects light off the colored shades.
The PH5 lamp is considered to be a classical masterpiece and the ultimate functional style icon. This modern pendant lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen more than 50 years ago. Poul Henningsen named it the PH5 because the diameter of the top shade is 50 cm. The number "5" refers to 5 dm (19.7"). The PH5 lamp consists of three reflecting shades, a cone and two smaller colored shades (red and blue) designed to improve the light source's color rendering properties. Red and blue was a natural choice because these two colors belong to the spectrum of which the human eye is least sensitive, and at the same time they weaken the yellow/green spectrum where the eye is most sensitive.
The PH5 lamp is a classic icon of mid century modern Scandinavian design. Always stylish, effortlessly elegant and uniquely beautiful, the PH5 lamp is a modern classic that evokes a world of luxury and sophistication. To be treasured forever.
